It may be August recess in Washington, but it’s a busy time in TX-02! Last week we had an open house at my Kingwood office, toured a local brewery, and got an aerial tour of Houston’s flood control projects. Keep scrolling for some highlights from last week as well as some important upcoming dates to mark on your calendars.

As always, please reach out to one of my offices if you have a question or concern. Stay up to date by following me on Facebook and Twitter and subscribing to my YouTube channel.

KINGWOOD OPEN HOUSE RECAP

My team and I had a great time meeting many of you at the open house at our Kingwood office last Thursday. Thanks to all who attended.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS
In case you missed the Kingwood open house, or live on the other side of the district, don’t worry! We’re hosting an open house at our office on Cypresswood Drive this Thursday, August 22 from 5:30-7:30 PM. See you there.

My office is partnering with the VA to host a veterans claims clinic this Friday. In addition to my staff, Representatives from the Department of Veterans Affairs Regional Office, the Department of Veteran Affairs National Cemetery as well as representatives from the Pension, Compensation, and Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment divisions will be present to help address any related claims you have. Look forward to talking with TX-02 veterans!

Next Wednesday, I'll be hosting a town hall at Trini Mendenhall Community Center. This will be a great opportunity to discuss today's pressing issues and current legislation. I look forward to answering your questions and fostering productive conversation!

IN THE NEWS

My favorite part of last week was when I took a helicopter tour of various flood control areas in the second district. Sites included the Addicks and Barker reservoirs, the San Jacinto River, and a portion of Lake Houston where Harris County Flood Control District (HCFCD) is working with FEMA and the US Army Corp of Engineers (USACE) to reduce the amount of sand and improve water flow through dredging.

Very grateful to FEMA, USACE, HCFCD and Texas National Guard for hosting the tour and filling me in on the progress we’ve made to improve flood mitigation in Houston. Thanks to multi-level government cooperation, we’ve made a lot of progress. But, we still have a lot to go.

Hurricane Harvey made landfall two years ago this week. Now is as good of a time as ever to purchase flood insurance if you haven’t already. Questions? Check out FEMA’s questionnaire (English) (Spanish) for more information on flood insurance.
