This week, Houston saw historic amounts of torrential rain as a result of Tropical Depression Imelda. As Houstonians begin another recovery, I wanted to share some resources below to help in your recovery process.

I'm dedicated to working with local, state and other federal entities to address this growing problem. I met this week with Harris County Flood Control District (HCFCD) and hosted a briefing for members of the Houston delegation to inform members of the progress that's been made and, more importantly, what more needs to be done to address Houston flooding.

historical rainfall...again?

This week brought rain, flooding and devastation to our community. Areas that did not flood during Hurricane Harvey saw, in some cases, inches of water in their homes and businesses. As levels recede and the full extent of the damage is assessed, I’ve listed crucial resources to assist in your recovery:

finding solutions

As Tropical Depression Imelda hit our community, myself and Rep. Olson (TX-22) hosted Harris County Flood Control District (HCFCD) and the City of Houston for a briefing in Washington. At the briefing, members of the Houston delegation were updated on Hurricane Harvey recovery projects, such as the dredging project on the San Jacinto River. The meeting also addressed potential projects the city and county could execute if awarded federal funding by the Texas General Land Office.

In addition to the briefing, I met with HCFCD officials on Friday to assess what we know about the damage Imelda caused. All levels of government stand ready to cooperate and provide assistance to those impacted by this week’s flooding.

These meetings could not have happened at a more appropriate time. Tropical Depression Imelda put Houston’s flooding vulnerabilities on full display. Today and every day, I remain vigilant in addressing this issue for TX-02 and the greater Houston area. The flooding and destruction that occurred this week cannot keep happening.

one fun thing

Earlier this week, I participated in Anheuser-Busch’s bipartisan Brew Across America competition, where 4 Representatives and 6 Senators partnered with local breweries to brew custom, locally influenced beers. While my brew, One Eye-PA, did not win first place, it took home the People’s Choice Award. Thanks to everyone who voted and thanks to Karbach brewery in Houston for making a great IPA!
